Country Threads Homestead Act #532

Webster's dictionary defines the Homestead Act as an act passed by the U.S. Congress in 1872 under which settlers became homesteaders. A homestead is described as a tract of land granted to a settler who cleared, cultivated and lived on it. This quilt was made to commemorate Jane Quinn's outdoor quilt show held in Bozeman, MT, at Quilting in the Country. Symbols of homesteading in the Northwest appear in the quilt which measures 52" x 72".
